The short history of crochet
The origin of crochet is uncertain, although the first writings date from the Middle Ages. It was first used by nuns and taught to young girls. Faced with the craze, crochet was exported to ladies' courts in Italy, Spain and then France. It was Miss Riego de la Blanchardière who was the first woman to publish a magazine on the crochet technique after having taught it to Queen Victoria.
