Once dry, self-hardening clay is not naturally waterproof . To hold water (e.g., a small vase), a suitable protective coating (varnish/finish) must be applied to the entire surface in several layers. Without protection, the creation risks absorbing water and being damaged.

To prevent it from drying out, keep the clay well wrapped (film + airtight bag) and store it away from air and heat. Tip: remove as much air as possible from the bag before sealing; this improves preservation.
